What's not allowed in a roll-off dumpster?
Quick answer
Hazardous materials, tires, batteries, propane tanks, medical waste, and asbestos cannot go in any dumpster we deliver. Most of these have dedicated drop-off or disposal programs in San Diego County. If you're unsure about an item, call or text 619-629-4751 before loading it.

Prohibited materials
- Paint, motor oil, solvents, and household chemicals
- Tires and vehicle batteries
- Propane tanks and other pressurized containers
- Asbestos-containing material
- Medical or biohazard waste
- Refrigerant-containing appliances that haven't been evacuated
Why these items are excluded
Landfills and transfer stations in California are required to reject hazardous and regulated waste, so anything in that category found in a bin can delay pickup or trigger extra disposal fees. Keeping these items out from the start avoids surprises for everyone.
Where these items actually go
San Diego County runs household hazardous waste and e-waste programs separate from roll-off disposal. Electronics, batteries, and similar items typically go to dedicated drop-off points rather than a dumpster.
What to do if you're not sure
If an item doesn't clearly fall into the accepted list, the fastest path is a quick call or text before it goes in the bin. This is especially worth doing for appliances with refrigerant, large quantities of paint or chemicals, and construction debris that might contain asbestos, such as older popcorn ceiling or floor tile.
Frequently asked questions
Can I put old paint cans in a dumpster?
No — paint and other household chemicals are prohibited. Fully dried, empty paint cans may be acceptable; ask us first if you're unsure.
Can tires go in a roll-off dumpster?
No, tires are not accepted in any of our dumpster sizes.
What about a refrigerator?
Refrigerators and AC units need refrigerant removed before they can go in the bin. Call us and we'll walk you through the easiest option.
Is asbestos ever allowed?
No. If you suspect a material contains asbestos, don't disturb it — that typically requires a licensed abatement contractor, not a standard roll-off dumpster.
